Here at LearnBop we have a team of amazing educators with diverse backgrounds who have come on board to author content for our interactive Bops. To help you get to know them better, we're starting a series of Author Profiles. Today's installment is written by Meghan Polselli, a valued member of our author team.

Introduction

Meghan_Polselli_HeadshotMy name is Meghan Polselli and I have been working with LearnBop since November of 2014. I absolutely love it!  I live in Arizona with my husband and 2 children. I graduated from Arizona University in 2003 with a specialization teaching grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade. I went on to get my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2007. I have been teaching for the past 11 years, the majority of that time with 2nd grade students. I spent my early teaching career teaching a 1st and 2nd grade multiage class. My desire to teach began when I was in 2nd grade myself, and I have never pictured myself doing anything else! I loved my second grade teacher and knew from then on that I wanted to teach.

How I Discovered Learnbop

I was first introduced to LearnBop by a parent of one of my former students. The parent had seen that LearnBop was looking for math teachers to create Bops for students in younger grades. As soon as I went on the LearnBop website I knew that I would do well with creating Bops for younger students because I work with them every day! I am also my grade level’s math coach this year, and I felt that creating Bops would go hand in hand with my experience teaching, as well as my experience coaching my colleagues to support them in helping our students master the Common Core standards.

Authoring Bops

My everyday teaching of my second grade students has greatly influenced how I create Bops. When I am creating a Bop I think about the necessary steps that my students would need to follow to solve the problem. I also take into consideration the tips and hints that I give my students along the way when they are struggling with a certain problem or concept. Authoring Bops has helped with my teaching because I am very aware of how certain steps in each problem align with the different Common Core standards, and I’ve become even more familiar with the Common Core math standards for my grade level.

One of my favorite parts of authoring Bops is creating the pictures and illustrations that accompany each step of the problem. I enjoy creating pictures that help the student solve the problem. I also like to include pictures and illustrations that will interest the students and make learning fun!

I am excited about all that LearnBop is doing to help students and I feel very privileged to be a part of it! I look forward to continuing to create Bops that help students become masters of math!
